On August 31, 2024, Metropolitan Epifaniy of Kyiv and All Ukraine led the Divine Liturgy at the revered healing spring in Zahlyna, a suburb of Monastyrok in the Lviv region, in celebration of the feast of the Placing of the Cincture of the Mother of God.
This annual pilgrimage to the sacred site commemorates the miraculous appearance of the Mother of God.
The Primate of the Autocephalous Orthodox Church of Ukraine was joined by several high-ranking clerics, including Metropolitan Makariy of Lviv, Metropolitan Dymytriy of Lviv and Sokal, Metropolitan Hilarion of Rivne and Ostroh, Metropolitan Yevstratiy of Bila Tserkva, Archbishop Matthiy of Volodymyr and Novovolynsk, Archbishop Agapit of Vyshhorod, Archbishop Julian of Kolomyia and Kosiv, Archbishop Mytrofan of Kharkiv and Slobozhan, Archbishop Pavlo of Khmelnytsky and Shepetivka, Bishop Anthony of Chernihiv and Nizhyn, and numerous other clergy.
The service attracted a large congregation of pilgrims drawn to this sacred location.
Following the Gospel reading, Metropolitan Epifaniy delivered his first sermon and offered a special prayer for Ukraine amidst its current challenges.
Prayers were also made for soldiers defending the nation, the government, and the souls of fallen defenders and civilians lost in the conflict.
At the conclusion of the Divine Liturgy, Metropolitan Epifaniy, alongside Metropolitan Dymytriy of Lviv and Sokal and the clergy, descended to the healing spring. They sang the prayer “My Queen, Most Gracious…” and partook of the spring water.
