On October 10, 2024, Metropolitan Epifaniy of Kyiv and All Ukraine visited the Church of the Holy Apostle and Evangelist John the Theologian in Kharkiv, where he led a prayer service for Ukraine’s victory over Russia.
Joining the Primate of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine were Metropolitan Simeon of Dnipro and Sycheslav, Archbishop Mitrofan of Kharkiv and Slobozhan, Bishop Fotii of Zaporizhzhya and Melitopol, Bishop Sava of Donetsk and Slavyansk, as well as chaplains, local clergy, the Governor of Kharkiv Oblast, Oleh Syniehubov, and many faithful.
During the service, prayers were offered for the defenders of Ukraine, for the authorities, and for the Ukrainian people. Metropolitan Epifaniy also prayed specifically for Ukraine’s victory over Russia.
Addressing the gathered community, the Primate expressed his firm belief in Ukraine’s victory and the establishment of a just peace. He recalled that for centuries, Russia has sought to conquer and “dissolve” Ukraine, to destroy its people, appropriate its history and culture, and suppress its language and native Church.
Yet, he emphasized that the Lord has blessed Ukraine, as the enemy has not succeeded. He assured that God continues to stand with Ukraine, on the side of truth and freedom, as the nation endures, fights, and defends itself despite all challenges.
“We have demonstrated the strength of our Ukrainian spirit, and we will continue to fight until our final victory,” said Metropolitan Epifaniy.
“This determination is particularly embodied by the heroic city of Kharkiv, which has shown that it will not surrender but will remain steadfast under the Ukrainian flag, unbroken, until our ultimate victory.”
On the eve of Chaplain’s Day, Metropolitan Epifaniy, alongside Oleh Syniehubov, honored the chaplains of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine with high awards, recognizing their service and dedication.
