Metropolitan Epiphaniy of Kyiv extended warm congratulations on social media following the election of American Robert Francis Prevost as the new Pope of the Roman Catholic Church. Upon accepting his election by the 133-member College of Cardinals on May 8, 2025, in the Sistine Chapel, the new pontiff chose the name Pope Leo XIV.
In his message, the Metropolitan wrote:
“I congratulate our brothers and sisters in Christ — Catholics of both Eastern and Latin rites — on the election of the new head of the Roman Catholic Church, Leo XIV.
He has become the new Latin Roman Bishop, Head of the Vatican City State and the Holy See, elected on May 8, 2025, during the conclave held in the Sistine Chapel.
I wish the elected Pontiff a successful ministry for the good of all Christians, in the name of bearing witness to the Gospel and for the increase of peace and goodwill throughout the world!”
