Metropolitan Epifaniy of Kyiv and All Ukraine, accompanied by his delegation, visited the Archdiocese of America in New York as part of his official visit to the United States.
The Metropolitan was accompanied by Metropolitan Yevstratiy of Bila Tserkva. Also in attendance were prominent members of the community who have worked in support of Ukraine for many years, including Archon Andriy and Svitlana Matsola. Archon Matsola is Chairman of the Donator’s Board of the Metropolitan’s Foundation of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine. Other honored guests included Attorney Marian Martyniuk, and Ms. Katherine Stephaniuk.
Archbishop Elpidophoros of America welcomed Metropolitan Epifaniy and expressed his deep appreciation and joy for his presence in the United States. He emphasized the importance of this visit, both for Ukraine and for the unity of Orthodoxy in these challenging times.
Referring to the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Archbishop Elpidophoros stressed the need to clearly identify the aggressor and the just cause at hand. He also emphasized that the Holy Archdiocese of America will work closely with the new U.S. administration to ensure that Ukraine and its people receive the support they deserve in restoring peace and territorial integrity.
In addition, Archbishop Elpidophoros expressed the Archdiocese’s unwavering solidarity with the Ukrainian people, recognizing the immense suffering and injustice caused by Russian aggression. He emphasized the urgent need to rebuild the destroyed churches and religious institutions in Ukraine.
Metropolitan Epifaniy’s presence in Washington and participation in the Ukrainian-American Prayer Breakfast alongside the National Prayer Breakfast provided an important opportunity to present Ukraine’s appeal to the U.S. government.
Archbishop Elpidophoros expressed his firm belief that America, as a champion of religious freedom, would stand in solidarity with Ukraine and support its return to peace and freedom.
Finally, the Archbishop of America affirmed that the Holy Archdiocese of America, as the First Eparchy of the Great Church of Christ in the New World, will continue to stand with the Ukrainian people and fully support justice and truth in their struggle to restore the territorial integrity of Ukraine.

Your Beatitude, Metropolitan Epifaniy of Kyiv and All Ukraine,
Reverend Hierarchs and Clergy,
Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
Last evening, together with Archons of the Order of Saint Andrew, we received Your Beatitude at a dinner celebrating Your presence in the United States. Today, with much joy and anticipation, we receive You here at the Headquarters of the Sacred Archdiocese of America. In both cases, we are glad to behold Your Beatitude and are grateful for Your appearing in our midst.
Your Beatitude: The Sacred Archdiocese of America welcomes You with all the enthusiasm and hopefulness that we can muster. We fully appreciate and realize these delicate times for the suffering Ukrainian People. We know how Your Beatitude’s heart breaks for the suffering that continues unabated for nearly three years now, and how the sovereign Nation of Ukraine has been violated by Russian aggression. We are all heartbroken as well and are continuously praying for a just and peaceful resolution that will honor Ukraine’s borders.
Perhaps the saddest part of this war has been completely unnecessary and has pitted Orthodox Christian against Orthodox Christian. The unconscionable decision of the Russian Church to endorse Putin’s mad scheme of war and conquest has ripped open a wound in world Orthodoxy which may well take years to overcome. The loss of life alone has been staggering, and the damage to the infrastructure and general conditions within Ukraine has been as senseless as it has been cruel.
Your Beatitude:
You and Your synodia are most welcome here, and we are especially happy about Your Archpastoral Visit to Washington for the Ukrainian American Prayer Breakfast, which was in tandem with the National Prayer Breakfast. We hope that Your meetings were productive and that You had the opportunity to present Your case and the case of the noble Ukrainian People to the American Government.
There is, and there should be, absolute clarity on who is the aggressor and whose cause is righteous. We will work with You to ensure that Your case is understood at the highest levels of the new Administration, which has taken on religious liberty as a political issue of great importance. Thus, if freedom of faith and freedom of conscious are truly significant to American Power, then we know on whose side it will fall.
As I said last evening, our prayers are with You and the Ukrainian People, and we pray for a swift and just peace that will leave Ukraine with its entire territorial integrity.
I also stressed that there must also be righteous reparations for all the damage done to the Country, especially the hundreds of churches and the institutions that have been wantonly destroyed.
The Sacred Archdiocese of America, the first Eparchy of the Great Church of Christ in the New World, stands with You. We are all the spiritual Children of the Great Church of the Mother Church of Constantinople, and as loving spiritual siblings, we shall always be at Your side.

Metropolitan Epifaniy’s Archpastoral visit to the US
Yesterday, February 10, Metropolitan Epifaniy of Ukraine attended a dinner with the Archons of the Ecumenical Patriarchate, who welcomed the Metropolitan to the United States.
On Sunday February 9, the Metropolitan visited St. Andrew Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral in Silver Spring, Maryland, marking the unity between the Orthodox Church of Ukraine and the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the USA (UOC-USA), an eparchy of the Ecumenical Patriarchate. As a symbolic reminder of the enduring unity between the respective churches, during his visit to Maryland, Metropolitan Epifaniy was presented with a replica of the Panagia and cross worn by Metropolitan John (Theodorovich), the UOC-USA’s first Metropolitan.
As part of his Archpastoral visit to the United States, he attended the Ukrainian American Prayer Breakfast, which was held in tandem with the National Prayer Breakfast, where he spoke on behalf of the Ukrainian people.
