Metropolitan Ambrosios of Korea visited Chania on Sunday, where he celebrated the Divine Liturgy at the Holy Monastery of Chrysopigi.
Speaking to local media, he highlighted the work of the Metropolis of Korea in spreading Christianity, noting that around 4,000 Koreans have been baptized so far, while seven parishes, two monasteries, and a publishing house are active. He emphasized the strong interest among Koreans and Japanese—especially young people—who wish to learn about the Orthodox Church and join its life.
“In a country with religious freedom, where the majority of people are non-religious and suicide rates remain high, we bear a great responsibility to transmit the message of Orthodoxy—that life is Resurrection,” he underlined.
Metropolitan Ambrosios also spoke about the situation in Greece, pointing to the growing distance of many from the Church. He stressed the need for genuine catechesis rather than a merely formal approach, adding: “In the Greek Church there must be a re-evangelization. People are baptized as infants without receiving systematic catechesis.”
