In a post on his personal account on social media, Metropolitan of Hong Kong Nektarios speaks about the monasteries in Greece that were saved from the devastating fires, which are still raging.
Τhe Metropolitan comments that the fact that some monasteries and churches were saved, means that “there was a purpose. They were saved not for us to congratulate each other for the miracle, but to serve the multiple needs of the victims “.
Moreover, he said:
“I see posts by some people who talk about the miraculous salvation of monasteries and churches in Evia and others who ask why God saved the monasteries and not the villages.
All of these posts have the wrong rationale. I will not explain here the wisdom and judgment of God. At some point, ask the priests of your parish to catechize you.
But I will mention the following. The fact that some monasteries and chuches were saved from destruction means that there is a purpose. These spaces work in a consoling and supportive way. Spiritually and materially. They were saved not for us to congratulate each other on the miracle but to serve the multiple needs of the victims.
And something even deeper. Do not be fool boasting about by miracles. Bow your head and humble yourself. Your prayer was not able to cover the villages. Remember Moses. He said to God: no, you will not save only me from destruction. You will save all the people. This is how spiritual people work.”
