Today, the local Church of Demetrias celebrated with reverence and gratitude the great Day of Orthodoxy, during which our Church honors the Restoration of the Holy Icons, after the long and painful period of Iconoclasm.
The Divine Liturgy for the Orthodox celebration was held at St. Nikolaos Metropolitan Church of Volos by the Metropolitan Ignatios of Demetrias.
In his preach, Metropolitan referred to the Restoration of the Holy Icons saying that “it is a victory for Orthodoxy, inside the Byzantium, because it secured the peace and the unity of our Church… Today, though, Orthodoxy goes through a hazardous desert”.
As Metropolitan Ignasios: “Orthodoxy all over the world goes through crucifixion. Hard times for difficult decisions. Unity is at stake. We have to go on, bearing in mind that we must not rely on past, and possibly forever gone, glories, but to preserve the hope of the presence of Jesus, because, in the end, the victor is one and only, the Truth, Christ himself”.
