A priests’ assembly took place in the Holy Metropolis of Corfu on Monday morning at the Cultural Center of Corfu. Abbot of the Monastery of Agios Dionysios in Olympus, Elder Maximos Kyritsis was the keynote speaker.
Metropolitan Nektarios of Corfu, Paxos and the Diapontia Islands, referring to the days of Holy Week and Easter, said to the priests of the local Church that “as time passes, we see that the situation in our homeland is steadily worsening, not only the spiritual condition, but also of all those who want to patronize our Church, in order not to give freedom as they say, but to bind the spiritual radiation of Orthodoxy, leading people to atheism. Those in power have partially accomplished their dark goal.”
According to Metropolitan Nektarios, “we regret that the new couples neither marry nor have children because of financial difficulties. This reality should not make us desperate, but we need to be determined, keeping in mind what it really is we are up against.”
According to the Metropolitan of Corfu, we must not forget the trauma that the young people are leaving Greece in large numbers while the indigenous population is aging rapidly. “Taking into account all these modern challenges, the priest is called upon to preserve the Orthodox faith and to redouble his efforts in his spiritual struggle so that he does not hurt the souls that Christ has trusted him”.
Finally, Metropolitan of Corfu wished Elder Maximos and the priests that attended the assembly a happy Easter.
