Metropolitan Nektarios of Corfu, Paxos and Diapontia Islands officiated at the Divine Liturgy at the Monastery of the Theotokos Kassopitra in Kassiopi on Wednesday, May 8.
The Metropolitan of Corfu referred to Saint Ioannis the Evangelist. He said that the disciple, whom Jesus loved, pointed out in his Epistles that whoever claimed to love God yet hated a brother or sister was a liar, and vice versa.
“Unfortunately, today, even in our Orthodox homeland, our society has been poisoned by the anthropocentric spirituality of the West. There are no other things in life apart human and the purpose of the “modern” life is apotheosis,” he noted.
He added that “on the contrary, in the East, the center of our life is the God-Man Jesus Christ, the cause of our existence. Evangelist Ioannis admits that God is love. Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love.”
