Metropolitan Markos of Chios delivered a powerful message affirming the sovereignty of Greece over its islands and islets during his homily following the Hierarchical Divine Liturgy at the celebrating Holy Church. The service was also attended by Metropolitan Athanasios of Sisani and Bishop Nifon of Acheloos.
Following the Divine Liturgy, a Doxology was celebrated to commemorate the 1912 liberation of Chios from Ottoman rule, marking the dual feast of the day in honor of the Patron Saints and Great Martyrs of Chios, Minas, Victor, and Vincent. The service was held in the presence of Minister of State Makis Voridis and PASOK President Nikos Androulakis.
In his homily, Metropolitan Markos underscored the historical and national importance of the celebration, emphasizing Greece’s enduring connection to its islands. “Turks, listen carefully,” he declared, “do not get your hopes up; the islands and islets are ours.”
