With great pleasure, Metropolitan Nathanael of Chicago welcomed the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Greece, Ioannis Loverdos, during his visit to Chicago.
The meeting, which included a wide-ranging discussion with representatives of the Greek diaspora, was also attended by Mr. Emmanuel Koubarakis, Consul General of Greece in Chicago, Georgia Tasiopoulou, Consul of Greece in Chicago, and Endy (Auxentios) Zemenides, Executive Director of the Hellenic American Leadership Council (HALC).
Loverdos is undertaking an official visit to the United States from June 12 to June 18, 2025, visiting the cities of Chicago, Detroit, and Cleveland.
During his stay in Chicago, the Deputy Minister visited the National Hellenic Museum, the Greek Research Center for Asia Minor and Pontus, as well as the Center for Hellenic Studies at the University of Chicago.
On Saturday, June 14, he delivered greetings at the Panhellenic Scholarship Foundation’s award ceremony.
The following day, Sunday, June 15, he will attend the Divine Liturgy at the Holy Cathedral Church of the Annunciation, participate in the Greek Festival of the Saint Demetrios community in Elmhurst, and visit the Greek American Nursing Home.
On Monday, June 16, Loverdos will travel to Detroit, where he will meet with Metropolitan Nikolaos, visit the Michigan Greek Museum, and present the Strategic Plan for the Greek Diaspora before representatives of the community at Saint Nicholas Church. Additionally, he will lay a wreath at the monument honoring Dimitrios Ypsilantis in the city of Ypsilanti.
The visit will conclude in Cleveland on Tuesday, June 17, where the Deputy Minister will deliver remarks and engage with the Greek community at an event at the Greek Cultural Garden. Furthermore, he will visit the Georgia Pappas Hellenic Cultural School and the Church of the Annunciation.
During his visit, Loverdos will hold a series of meetings with representatives of the Greek diaspora, as well as with ecclesiastical, educational, and cultural organizations.
