Metropolitan Methodios of Boston was recently under self-quarantine for ten days due to COVID-19 infection, although he had received both doses of the vaccine.
It is recalled that he was one of the three hierarchs, who were infected with the coronavirus. The other two were the former Archbishop of America, Dimitrios, and Metropolitan Isaiah of Denver, as reported by the National Herald.
All three were fully recovered and Metropolitans Methodius and Isaiah returned to their duties, and the former Archbishop of America to his study.
Metropolitan Methodios spoke to the National Herald about his unexpected problem with the coronavirus. Starting with the question of how he felt after the COVID-19 infection, he said that “thank God every day that passes I feel better.”
He added: “Thank God I received both doses of Moderna vaccine. I had planned to receive the third one, the so-called booster, after my return from New York, but I was infected before the vaccination appointment.”
Asked where he thought he got the coronavirus, Metropolitan Methodios replied that “I think I was one of several people who were infected in New York at the various events and the St. Nicholas program.”
When we asked him to describe what the symptoms were like, what treatment he followed, what this experience was like, he said that “the symptoms I had were the usual ones such as excessive fatigue, loss of taste and smell, cough and runny nose” and added that “I started to feel much better when I got the antibody treatment at home.”
When asked whether he had any advice for the priests and faithful of Boston Metropolis, in general. He replied: “I would strongly urge all priests and laypeople to follow the advice of their doctors to fight this deadly virus.”
Asked whether there are priests in the Metropolis of Boston who refuse to be vaccinated, “as far as I know no priest has refused to be vaccinated.”
Asked if there were and how many priests were lost before the vaccines had been released, he said that “unfortunately, at the beginning of the pandemic, two of our clerics died who suffered for a long time from other diseases. We also mourned the deaths of several faithful people who died in the last two years, who were also victims of the pandemic.”
