The Locum Tenens of the Metropolis of Gjirokastër, Metropolitan Nicholas of Apollonia and Fier, stood amidst the charred remains of the historic Church of Saint Demetrios in the village of Senitsa, Delvinë, following the devastating fire that recently reduced the centuries-old church to ruins.
Recognized as a cultural monument, the Church of Saint Demetrios dates back to the 18th century. Now, it faces the monumental challenge of being rebuilt from the ground up, a task that demands significant financial resources.
Despite the obstacles, Metropolitan Nicholas assured the faithful that priority will be given to reconstructing the roof to prevent further deterioration from winter weather. His pastoral presence in the aftermath of the disaster offered both solidarity and hope.
The Metropolitan also expressed his support for all those affected by the recent wildfires in the region, emphasizing the Church’s willingness to assist in any way possible to meet the needs of the local community.
