On Monday, May 19, 2025, Metropolitan Daniel of Accra, accompanied by the Archimandrite Aidesios Mukeke and the Grand Protopresbyter Kwame Joseph Labi, visited the headquarters of the Christian Council of Ghana.
At the Council’s meeting hall, he was received by the President, Rev. Dr. Hilliard Dogbe, the General Secretary, Rev. Dr. Cyril G. K. Fayose, as well as leaders of Christian churches and denominations in Ghana.
Rev. Dr. Hilliard Dogbe warmly welcomed the Greek Orthodox Metropolitan, Metropolitan Daniel, expressing his joy and satisfaction at his presence, which, as he noted, marked the first-ever visit of an Orthodox Church leader to the Council’s proceedings in Ghana.
He emphasized that the Orthodox Church in Ghana is among the oldest members of the Christian Council of the country, with an active presence in its efforts and initiatives aimed at Christian unity, the preaching of Christ’s Gospel, God’s peace, and Christian brotherhood.
He also expressed his hope that Metropolitan Daniel would visit the Council’s headquarters more frequently and participate in its work. “The Christian Council is your home. You are the Orthodox Metropolitan in our country, and we will always be delighted and eager to welcome you,” the President said.
In turn, Metropolitan Daniel addressed the Council members, expressing his joy at making their acquaintance. He conveyed the greetings of the Alexandrian Primate, His Beatitude Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa, Theodoros II, making a brief reference to the second-ranking Church in Orthodoxy and its long-standing ministry throughout the African continent. “The Patriarchate of Alexandria is a founding member of the World Council of Churches (WCC) and actively participates in all international organizations and fora. Therefore, the Orthodox Church in Ghana, which is one of the oldest members of your Council and a permanent member of this Committee, is always ready to actively contribute to every initiative aiming at Christian unity,” said the Metropolitan.
The General Secretary of the Council, Rev. Dr. Cyril G. K. Fayose, welcomed Metropolitan Daniel and his delegation, inviting them to participate as permanent members of the Christian Council of Ghana in the upcoming Annual General Assembly scheduled for May 21, 2025.
