The Patriarchate of Alexandria and All Africa announced the repose in the Lord of late Metropolitan Nifon of Pelusium.
The late Metropolitan fell asleep in the Lord today, Tuesday, December 8, 2020, at his home in Port Said.
Pope and Patriarch Theodore II of Alexandria and All Africa, devastated, performed at the Holy Patriarchal Chapel of Saints Theodores, a Trisagion for the repose of the soul of the blessed Metropolitan Nifon, in the presence of the Chief Secretary of the Holy Synod.
Metropolitan Nifon (Nikitas Tsavaris) was born in 1959 in Nikaia, Attica.
He graduated from the Pedagogical Academy of Heraklion, Crete and from the Theological School of Athens. In 1982 he became a monk in the Holy Monastery of Agarathos in Heraklion, Crete by Archbishop Timotheos of Crete.
He was ordained a Presbyter in 1984 by Metropolitan Titos of Rethymno. He served as a Priest in the Diocese of Peristeri and in 2005 he was seconded to the Patriarchate of Alexandria where he served as Abbot of the Holy Monastery of St. George in Old Cairo.
On October 18, 2009 he was ordained titular Bishop of Babylon.
The ordination was performed by Patriarch Theodore of Alexandria, along with the Metropolitans Petros of Axum, Chysostomos of Peristeri (Church of Greece), Kallinikos of Pelusium, Nikolaos of Ermoupolis and Bishops Evgenios of Knossos (Ecumenical Patriarchate), Gabriel of Mareotis and Nicodemus of Nitria.
On November 26, 2014, he was elected Metropolitan of Pelusium.
The funeral service will take place on Friday, December 11, at 2 p.m., at the Patriarchal Holy Monastery of St. George in old Cairo and will be officiated by Patriarch Theodore II of Alexandria and All Africa, along with the Metropolitans of the Patriarchate.
Immediately after, the body of the blessed Metropolitan will be transported to Greece and will be buried in his birthplace, in Nikaia, Attica.
The Patriarchal Commissioner of Alexandria Metropolitan Narcissus, has been appointed Vicar of the Holy Metropolis of Port Said.
