Today, Monday, August 26, at the age of 85, Metropolitan Hierotheos of Lemnos and Agios Efstratios reposed in the Lord.
After an infection, the Metropolitan was admitted to the Lemnos Hospital but it was deemed necessary to be transferred to Mytilene Hospital.
Metropolitan Hierotheos (Garifalos) of Lemnos and Agios Efstratios, Exarch of Aegean Sea, was born in Andros in 1934.
He attended the Theological School of the University of Athens and of Oxford. He was ordained clergyman in 1954 and has served as Protosyncellus, Catechist, Hierokyrix and Secondary School Teacher in Kozani, London, Orestiada and Athens.
He was Secretary of the Holy Synod of the Church of Greece (1968-1988), Member of Synodal Committees and Curator of the Church Calendar (1974-1989).
He was elected Metropolitan of Lemnos and Agios Efstratios by the Hierarchy of the Church of Greece in 1988.
