In a statement, Metropolitan Georgios of Kitros call on people to stop immediately all kinds of violence and fanaticism.
He stated that the overwhelming majority of the Greeks and all the Macedonians were sad and disappointed due to the adoption of Prespes Agreement.
He said that all those who opposed the treaty were convinced that they had did their bit to their homeland by participating in the national rally and other peaceful manifestations.
“We are convinced that, in the democratic structures of State, the responsible political forces will fight to downplay the negative effects of the Agreement.”
However, he specified that we were opposed to any violence, slur on the character of our fellow human beings, and vindictiveness.
“I urge every Macedonian patriot and every person of good will to continue to freely defend their views on the national question of Macedonia in a peaceful way. Patriotism does not justify fanaticism.”
In fact, the Metropolitan of Kitros urged his fellow citizens to isolate all the troublesome, anarchist and extreme elements that come from other cities.
“All they manage to do is to tarnish Katerini and discredit its peaceful inhabitants,” he concluded.
