The Sunday of Orthodoxy is one of the most significant feasts of the Orthodox Church, commemorating the triumph of Orthodoxy over iconoclasm and the restoration of the veneration of holy icons.
Each year, this day is celebrated with grandeur at the Ecumenical Patriarchate, with the participation of high-ranking clergy and distinguished guests, emphasizing the importance of the Orthodox faith and tradition.
This year, the celebrations will take place with special solemnity at the Patriarchal Church in the Phanar. On Saturday, March 8, during the Great Vespers, Metropolitan Epiphaniy of Kyiv and All Ukraine will preside over the service. Following this, Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew will confer the title of Archon Offikialios of the Great Church of Christ upon Spyridon Divanis from Athens.
On Sunday, March 9, the Patriarchal and Synodal Divine Liturgy will be celebrated by Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew and Metropolitan Epiphanius. At the conclusion of the Liturgy, the customary memorial service (Trisagion) for those who struggled for the Orthodox faith will be held, followed by the procession of the holy icons, symbolizing the restoration of icons and the enduring strength of Orthodoxy.
