Metropolitan Dionysios of Corinth, who fell asleep in the Lord tonight, at the age of 73.
The late hierarch had been hospitalized in the intensive care unit of IASO Hospital for the past several weeks and had withdrawn from his pastoral duties due to serious health issues.
His condition worsened after he returned from the United States earlier this year for medical treatment. He fought a brave battle from that time until the end.
Biography of Metropolitan Dionysios of Corinth
Metropolitan Dionysios (Mantalos) was born in Athens (Neo Psychiko) in 1952. He held a degree from the Faculty of Theology at the University of Athens.
He pursued postgraduate studies in Christian Philosophy and Education at the University of Thessaloniki.
He was ordained a deacon in 1974 and a presbyter in 1979. He served as preacher in 1977, general archieratical commissioner in 1978, and chancellor (protosyncellus) of the Holy Metropolis of Chalkida in 1990. He was also appointed Deputy General Director of the Apostolic Ministry in 2002 and Chief Secretary of the Holy Synod in 2006.
He was responsible for youth ministry and catechetical schools and served as director of the boarding school of the Holy Metropolis of Chalkida.
Additionally, he played a key role in establishing twenty-five spiritual centers and modern summer camps in Ilia and Evia under the same metropolis.
He organized and operated training schools for ministry leaders, including catechists, camp staff, and individuals involved in anti-heresy efforts. He also served as president of the board of directors of the “Drug Prevention Center” of the Prefecture of Evia.
Metropolitan Dionysios was highly active in writing articles, delivering lectures, participating in conferences, and appearing on numerous theological, social, and nationally themed radio and television programs.
He was ordained Metropolitan of Corinth on October 15, 2006.
