Metropolitan Athenagoras of Belgium and Exarch of the Netherlands and Luxembourg ordained Deacon Porfyrios Farcas to the holy priesthood during the Divine Liturgy celebrated on Sunday, June 14, 2026, at the Parish of Saint Barbara in Liège.
The ordination came just one day after Fr. Porfyrios had been ordained to the diaconate at the Church of the Protection of the Mother of God in Boussoit.
With this ordination, the Orthodox Church in Belgium welcomes a new priest who has devoted many years to pastoral ministry within correctional institutions across the Walloon Region. His service has focused particularly on supporting individuals facing marginalization, isolation, and social exclusion.
Fr. Porfyrios is married to Roxandra, and together they have two daughters. For many years, he has been a respected and active member of the Orthodox communities of Namur and Liège.
His ordination marks not only an important milestone in his personal spiritual journey but also serves as recognition of his longstanding commitment to ministering to some of the most vulnerable members of society.
The faithful gathered in Liège joined Metropolitan Athenagoras in welcoming the newly ordained priest and praying for God’s blessing upon his future ministry in the service of the Church and its people.
