Metropolitan Amphilochios, former Metropolitan of Ganos and Chora, reposed in the Lord on Saturday evening. The news was made known through a post by Archimandrite Nektarios Pokias and caused profound sorrow among the clergy and the faithful.
In his post, Fr. Nektarios stated:
“Our beloved Elder, Metropolitan Amphilochios, former of Ganos and Chora, departed for eternity a few moments ago. May his memory be eternal. May we have his blessing… He is now close to his Elder, Saint Amphilochios Makris.”
Biography of the late Metropolitan Amphilochios
Metropolitan Amphilochios, former of Ganos and Chora (birth name: Adamantios Tsoukos), was born in 1938 in Lardos, Rhodes. He received his primary and secondary education in his hometown and later studied theology at the Patmias Ecclesiastical School and at the Holy Theological School of Halki.
He was ordained a Deacon in 1962 and a Presbyter in 1963. During his ecclesiastical ministry, he served as a steward of the Theological School of Halki, parish priest in holy monasteries, preacher on Patmos and the surrounding islands, as well as a professor at the Patmias Ecclesiastical School for many years.
Developing an intense pastoral and spiritual activity, he distinguished himself for his missionary and spiritual work, and was particularly connected with the spiritual tradition of Patmos and the guidance of young people.
He was later elected Metropolitan of Ganos and Chora of the Ecumenical Patriarchate, a position from which he subsequently retired, bearing the title of former Metropolitan. Until his final years, he remained an active spiritual father and a beloved hierarch, with pastoral presence on islands of the Aegean, especially on Agathonisi.
