The Holy Metropolis of Spain and Portugal issued a message on the passing of the late Metropolitan of Ancyra, Ieremias, praying “for the repose of his soul.” As mentioned, the late hierarch served as shepherd of the countries that now comprise the Metropolis of Spain and Portugal when they still belonged to the Metropolis of France, prior to the establishment of the current Metropolis in 2003.
The current Metropolitan of Spain and Portugal expressed his “deepest respect” for the late Metropolitan, who served the Orthodox community of Ankara until his election as Metropolitan of Spain and Portugal (2018–2021).
It is noted that the late hierarch was distinguished “not only for the sweet way of chanting but also for the sweetness of his soul and his deep faith.”

Our Metropolis prays for the repose of the soul of the late Metropolitan of Ankara, Ieremias, who served in France (1988–2003) and Switzerland (2003–2018).
The late Metropolitan shepherded the countries of our province when they were still part of the Metropolis of France, before the separation in 2003 and the establishment of our Metropolis by the Mother Church.
Our shepherd holds the deepest respect for the late Metropolitan Ieremias, who faithfully served the Orthodox community of Ankara during his minitry until his election as Metropolitan of Spain and Portugal (2018–2021).
The late hierarch was distinguished not only for the sweet way of chanting but also for the sweetness of his soul and his deep faith.
May his memory be eternal.
