As part of its pastoral and charitable mission, the Holy Metropolis of Kitros, Katerini, and Platamonas has been hosting families and children from war-affected Ukraine since Wednesday, July 23, 2025, for a period of 15 days. The guests are staying at the Ecclesiastical Institutions Complex of the Metropolis in Pieria.
This initiative is part of the local Church’s solidarity and support efforts for those suffering due to conflict, with special attention to children who have endured traumatic experiences because of the war.
The Metropolis of Kitros strives to offer these families moments of relief and peace within a safe, warm, and welcoming environment. During their stay in Pieria, the guests visit religious and archaeological monuments, tourist attractions around Mount Olympus, coastal areas, and sites of historical and cultural interest. They also take part in recreational activities and get acquainted with the region.
On Saturday, July 26, the children, accompanied by their mothers and responsible priests, paid a visit to Metropolitan Georgios of Kitros, who warmly welcomed them with paternal love and heartfelt kindness.
The children and their escorts expressed their deep gratitude for the generous hospitality and the substantial support provided to them during this difficult period of their lives.
