On Sunday, January 31, 2021, Metropolitan Daniel of Axum presided over the Divine Liturgy for the Feast of the Three Holy Hierarchs at the Cathedral of Saint Frumentius in Addis Ababa.
The Ambassador of Greece to Ethiopia, Anna Farrou, the President of the Greek Community in Addis Ababa, Dimitrios Sykas, the principals, teachers, students of the Greek Community Schools, and many Orthodox believers attended the service.
At the end of the Liturgy at the Church, the Metropolitan welcomed everyone at the Metropolitan Mansion, where the cutting of the traditional vasilopita took place.
In his speech, he conveyed the wishes of the Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa, Theodore II, while referring to the coexistence of the Christian Faith with the Greek Letters. He stressed that the Three Holy Hierarchs found treasures of knowledge and wisdom by studying texts by ancient Greek writers and called on all of us to imitate them by passing on this heritage to our children.
“The schools of our Greek Community in Ethiopia and all of us celebrate their memory by promising to cultivate and preserve our language and culture, this huge and invaluable treasure and heritage called Greek Education,” said the Metropolitan. Finally, he thanked the teachers for their great contribution to Greek education.
