Patriarch Kirill of Moscow sent a message to Patriarch John X of Antioch, expressing his sympathy and support following the attack on Orthodox Christians in Syria by armed extremists.
Read the message below:
Your Beatitude, my beloved brother in Christ and fellow celebrant before the throne of God,
I extend to you my heartfelt greetings, along with wishes for peace, good health, and God’s almighty help in your highly responsible Patriarchal ministry.
Upon learning of the attack on Orthodox Christians in Sqalbiya by armed extremists, as well as the looting and vandalism that occurred, I would like to express my sincere sympathy and support to you and your flock. I fully support the Holy Church of Antioch’s statement regarding this attack, and together with you, I call upon the relevant authorities to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident, bring those responsible to justice, and ensure the safety of Christians in Syria.
I assure you of my prayers for you, my dear brother, and for the Apostolic Church of Great Antioch, whose children have once again experienced the bitterness of trials as they approach the period of Holy Week.
Praying that the risen Saviour may grant your God-loving flock and the entire Syrian people enduring peace and prosperity, I remain with brotherly love in Christ Jesus.
+KIRILL,
Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia
