“I apologise to all the citizens,” said Chancellor Angela Merkel, who revoked the federation and the states’ latest decision on a “rest day” from 1st to the 5th of April 2021, that is from Holy Thursday to Catholic Easter Monday.
“I take full responsibility for this – it was my fault. “In my experience, by banging your head on the wall, the wall always wins,” she said. She also explained that the aim of the decision was to stem the third wave of the pandemic by limiting social contacts for citizens.
It is recalled that the German Federation along with the federated states (Länder), after a long teleconference that was held yesterday, decided to extend the country’s lockdown until the 18th April, a “rest day”, with all shops closed from Holy Thursday to Monday Easter (1-5 April). They also decided to ban the operation of churches (while) meetings will be allowed with a maximum of five people from other households during holidays.
“Germany is in a very difficult situation, so unfortunately we have to hit the emergency brake,” Chancellor Angela Merkel said yesterday.
