The Orthodox Church commemorates today Venerable Arsenios the Cappadocian.
Venerable Arsenios the Cappadocian was born around 1840 in Pharasa, Cappadocia. His parents offered him a Christian upbringing until their premature death.
When he was about 26 years old he went to the Monastery of the Holy Forerunner of Phlavianai in Caesarea, where he became a monk and took the name ‘Arsenios’ (Theodoros was his birth name).
He has then ordained a deacon in Pharasa in order to teach Greek to children. Then, when he was 30 years old, he was ordained a presbyter and became Archimandrite in Caesarea.
Saint Arsenios healed human suffering in Christians and Muslims. He lived with self-denial. He protected his flock both from the Turks who wanted to convert them to Islamism and from the heretics who tried to spread heterodox teachings to the flock of Christ.
He lived many spiritual experiences through living faith and fervent prayer. He was deemed worthy by God to foresee the population exchange between Greece and Turkey on August 14, 1924. He also foresaw his repose. He performed innumerable miracles by the grace of the Holy Spirit both before and after his death.
