Today our Church honors the memory of St. Tychon (Tikhon), Bishop of Amathus.
The Church of Cyprus and especially the Holy Temple of the homonymous community, where the seat of the Bishopric of Amathus in Limassol was re-established in 2007, during the time of Archbishop of Chrysostom II Cyprus, celebrate.
Saint Tychon lived during the reigns of the emperors Arcadius and Honorius, around 400, and from a young age, he devoted himself to the ministry of the Church.
His blameless life and the integrity of his character, his faith in the Triune God, and his great zeal in spiritual practice for a virtuous life motivated him to approach and connect spiritually with Bishop Mnemonius, who ordained him a deacon, thus opening a new and glorious stage in the life of the Saint.
After the death of Bishop Mnemonius, Tychon succeeded him on the throne of the diocese of Amathus, which he enriched with his love, teaching, and rich virtues.
He effectively fought against idolatry and supported in various ways every man who needed the charity of the Church.
He fell asleep in the Lord peacefully in old age. The Holy Triune God empowered him, both when alive and after his death, to perform innumerable miracles for the benefit and consolation of the faithful.
