The Orthodox Church commemorates today the Apodosis (leave-taking) of the Pentecost. The Church also commemorates St. Triphyllios, Bishop of Ledra.
Saint Triphylios was bishop of Nicosia in the 4th century AD. He received education in the two spiritual centres of the island, in Salamina and in Soloi, and then he went to Beirut, where he completed his studies in law and rhetoric.
He met Saint Spyridon and was converted into the Tradition of the Holy Orthodox Church. He managed to have a thorough knowledge of the Christian faith. He was studying and listening to others with zeal and devotion. He was ordained deacon and accompanied Saint Spyridon during the 1st Ecumenical Synod at Nicea in Bithynia in 325 AD.
He spent his entire life praying and teaching God’s will and he seized all spiritual opportunities he was given within the Orthodox Church. He has virtuous and displayed exemplary behaviour. He fell asleep in the Lord at the age of 80 and was buried at the Holy Monastery of Panagia Odigitria in Nicosia.
