The Church commemorates Saint Gregory Decapolites, who was a monk during the iconoclastic period, and Saint Proclus, Archbishop of Constantinople. We also celebrate the Forefeast of the Entry into the Temple of the Most Holy Theotokos.
Saint Proclus was disciple of the great father and teacher, Saint Ioannis Chrysostomos. He was distinguished for his bravery and virtue, but, like his teacher, he was attacked by the establishment in Constantinople.
He was initially ordained Bishop of Cyzicus. In 434 AD he was made Patriarch of Constantinople. During his 12-year tenure, he changed the organization of the Church, carried out some outstanding social work and contributed to the development of the Constantinopolitan Rite.
He also transferred the relic of his old master, Saint Ioannis Chrysostomos from Comana (where he died in exile on September 14, 407) back to Constantinople.
