Today, the Orthodox Church commemorates Saint John (Chrysostom) IV, Catholicos of Georgia.
Saint John lived in the 9th century AD and was a chief shepherd of the Georgian Orthodox Church from 1033 AD until 1048 AD.
Prior to his ascension to Primate of the Autocephalous Church of Georgia, the patron of which is the Equal-to-the-Apostles Nina, he cloistered in the Monastery of Kalipos, in Antioch, Syria, where many Georgian monks lived there at that time.
Saint John died peacefully in the year 1048 AD, shepherding the people of God with patience, humility, and love.
