The Church commemorates Great Martyr Euphemia, Saint Olga, Equal to the Apostles, and Hieromartyr Arsenios, Patriarch of Alexandria.
Since her childhood, Saint and Great Martyr Euphemia was very pious because her parents were very pious.
Saint Euphemia dedicated her life to Christ and practiced the virtues she was taught by the Holy Bible. She was devoted to and cared for all the people, even though it was sometimes detrimental to her health.
Euphemia was discovered with forty-nine other Christians hiding in a house and worshipping God. So she was taken to the governor of the city, to whom she confessed her faith in the true God, and for this, she was tortured for many days.
The Great Martyr Euphemia met her death when she was placed in the arena, where lions were sent out to kill her.
The martyrdom of Saint Euphemia highlights the offer and the dynamism of the Christian women, who, with the Grace of God, demonstrate courage, patience, and fortitude for their love and faith in Christ and the defense of the heritage of our Orthodox Church.
Moreover, today’s celebration invites us to pray for all the women throughout the world who made great sacrifices every day to preserve their dignity in the modern world.
