Today, January 23, the Church commemorates Hieromartyr Clement of Ancyra, Bishop of Ancyra, and Martyr Agathangelus, and Saint Dionysius of Olympus, who was born in Thessaly in the late 15th century AD.
His pious parents, Nicholas and Theodora, raised him with the ideals of Christianity and taught him to love truth, wisdom, moderation, and virtue. After the death of his parents, he went to Meteora in order to become a monk and then to the Philotheou Monastery, on Mount Athos. He went on a pilgrimage visit to the Holy Land and, upon request, settled in the Skete of Veroia, Macedonia.
His craving for quietness, and his desire to avoid becoming a bishop, brought him to Mount Olympus in Pieria, where he first practiced and later founded a monastery, still surviving, which was bombed during the Second World War.
Having received the gift of healing from God, Saint Dionysius healed those who sought refuge to the monastery with faith and humility. Even after falling asleep in the Lord, his grace-gushing relics is a source of miracles for those who faithfully and reverently need his intercession.
