Memory of Righteous Martyr Eudokia

Memory of Righteous Martyr Eudokia

The Church commemorates Righteous martyr Eudokia and Virgin-martyr Domnina of Syria.

Saint Eudokia was born in Heliopolis in Phoenicia during the reign of Emperor Trajan. She spent the first years of her life trapped in carnal sin and decay.

However, the grace of God blessed a miraculous change to take place in her soul. After a serious illness, she left her hometown, and repented for her sins

She was baptized by Bishop Theodotus and became a Christian. She distributed all her property to charities of the local Church and followed the ascetic life until the moment she was arrested and taken to King Aurelianos to be tried for her faith.

However, Saint Eudokia, with her prayer, managed to resurrect the dead child of the king and to convert him to Christianity.

Later, the Righteous Martyr Eudokia was brought before the ruler Diogenes, who set her free, after God performed miracles again, thanks to the saint’s holiness and outspokenness.

Eventually, he was beheaded for the love of Christ, thus receiving the crown of martyrdom.

Faith, humility and prayer become a magnet of God’s grace for those, either men or women, who have repented and eagerly sought return and salvation in Christ. This is what the honored saints Eudokia, Domnina and Synesius remind us today.
