Today the Church celebrates the memory of Saint Kallinikos from Cilicia who was distinguished for the eloquence and zeal with which he preached the Gospel.
While teaching the Christian faith in Egypt, he was arrested by the pagans and led to the ruler Sacerdonus, who, first with tempting words and then with threats and torture, tried to convince him that the gods of the Roman Empire were true.
Thanks to his resistance to the pagan temptations of the ruler and his steadfast Christian confession, Saint Kallinikos was thrown into the fire, where he fell asleep in the Lord.
