The Church today commemorates the holy martyr Kallinikos, a native of Cilicia renowned for his eloquence and fervent zeal in spreading the holy Gospel.
While teaching the Christian faith in Egypt, he was arrested by pagans and brought before the governor Sacredon. The governor first attempted to persuade him with flattering words, then subjected him to terrifying tortures, trying to make him renounce his faith and worship the gods of the Roman Empire.
Despite these ordeals, Kallinikos remained steadfast in his Christian confession. For his unwavering faith, he was ultimately cast into the fire, where he peacefully surrendered his spirit to Jesus Christ.
