The Church commemorates Hieromartyr Peter, Archbishop of Alexandria.
Hieromartyr Peter of Alexandria was the successor of Archbishop Theonas. He was known for his devotion to the Orthodox faith and his love for God and fellow people.
Bishop Meletius of Lycopolis was condemned by a synod led by Peter of Alexandria in 306 A.D. This was the reason why he was humiliated by the people, who accused Archbishop Peter to emperor Galerius.
So, Alexander abandoned discretely his position because he was afraid of the reaction of the people who would have killed him.
Eventually, he was beheaded in AD 311, while he had served the Church of Christ for twelve years.
