In an atmosphere of deep emotion and reverence, an Archieratical Divine Liturgy and Memorial Service were held on Sunday, 16 November 2025, for the repose of the soul of the late Archbishop Gregorios of Thyateira and Great Britain. The services took place at the Cathedral of the Dormition of the Theotokos in Wood Green, North London.
Archbishop Nikitas of Thyateira and Great Britain presided over Orthros and the Divine Liturgy. Concelebrating with him were Metropolitan Athanasios of Cologne and Bishop Iakovos of Claudiopolis. They were joined by Archimandrite Theophanis Petrou, Protopresbyter Petros Georgiou, Hieromonk Gregory-Palamas Floridis, Archdeacon Georgios Tsourous, and Deacon Georgios Dallas.

The services were attended by the High Commissioner of the Republic of Cyprus to the United Kingdom, Mr Kyriakos Kouros, Archons of the Ecumenical Patriarchate, and representatives of London’s Greek-Cypriot organizations.
Life and Ministry of Archbishop Gregorios
Archbishop Gregorios (born Gregorios Theocharous Chatzittophis) was born in Marathovounos, Famagusta, on 28 October 1928. Orphaned from his father at a young age, he worked tirelessly from childhood and, with perseverance, managed to complete his studies. He was tonsured a monk and ordained deacon in 1953 by Archbishop Makarios III. After completing his theological studies in Athens, he arrived in London in 1959 to serve the Greek Orthodox community.
He was ordained priest that same year, and in 1964 he was appointed Chancellor of the Archdiocese. In 1970 he was elected Bishop of Tropaiou, assuming pastoral responsibility for the Wood Green community. On 16 April 1988, he was unanimously elected Archbishop of Thyateira and Great Britain by the Holy and Sacred Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate—a position he faithfully served until his retirement.
Archbishop Gregorios fell asleep in the Lord on 20 November 2019, at the age of 91. He is remembered as a gentle shepherd, a man of missionary spirit, and a hierarch of profound love for all people.
