With the Blessing of Archbishop Makarios of Australia, and under the guidance of Bishop Kyriakos of Sozopolis, the Archdiocesan District of Melbourne hosted an Easter Activity Day, last Saturday, April 1, 2023.
Bishop Kyriakos of Sozopolis attended the event and conveyed the blessing of Archbishop Makarios of Australia before greeting the volunteers and children. Present also, was Father Panagiotis Zoumboulis, Parish Priest of the Parish of the Archangels in the suburb of Parkdale, where the event was hosted at their church premises.
The afternoon was a resounding success and marked the first event for Sunday School children organized by the Archdiocesan District of Melbourne Sunday School Committee.
Around 100 children between the ages of 3-12 participated in eight creative stations with experiences including; folding palm crosses, baking koulouria, dyeing red eggs, decorating a Bridegroom icon and a lambada, and making Easter cards, epitaphio lanterns, and spice bags in commemoration of the Myrrh-bearing women.
Each activity highlighted an important element of the Orthodox tradition of Holy Week and Easter. As well as this, the children had a fun time participating in the exciting activities, and at the end, they proudly shared their creations with their parents.
In conclusion, the Easter Activities Day was a very good way for the children of the Greek community to come together and get in touch with Orthodox traditions.
