On Sunday, November 2, the Parish of Panagia Kamariani in Red Hill, Melbourne, held its annual memorial service in honor of all the departed Greek migrants who arrived on the shores of Australia seeking a better life.
Metropolitan Ezekiel of Dervis presided over Matins and the Hierarchical Divine Liturgy, assisted by the Parish Priest, Archimandrite Eirinaios Koikas.
Following the Divine Liturgy, a Trisagion memorial service was held at the monument dedicated to the Greek migrants.
Among the many faithful and dignitaries who attended were Federal Member of Parliament for Mornington Chris Crewther, Vice President of the Greek Community of Melbourne Anthi Sideropoulou, President of the Cypriot Community of the Northern Suburbs Ioannis Christou, President of the Cretan Brotherhood Ιoannis Nikolakakis, as well as representatives of various associations and community organizations.
After the wreath-laying ceremony, the national anthems of Greece and Australia were played, and a minute of silence was observed in memory of all the migrants who left their homeland in search of new beginnings in Australia.
