With ecclesiastical splendor and deep reverence, Matins and the Divine Liturgy were celebrated on Sunday, January 25, for the feast of Saint Gregory the Theologian at the Church of Panagia Kamariotissa in Red Hill, Melbourne, presided over by Bishop Kyriakos of Melbourne.
The Bishop was assisted by the parish priest, Archimandrite Irineos Koïkas, along with clergy from parishes of the Holy Diocese of Melbourne.
Following the Divine Liturgy, the “Philotimo” Festival 2026 took place on the parish grounds—an important initiative of the Holy Diocese of Melbourne aimed at strengthening unity, preserving tradition, and fostering the active presence of youth within the life of the Church.
As part of the festivities, children from the Diocese’s catechetical schools took part in parades, while dance groups presented traditional performances, creating a joyful and celebratory atmosphere for all in attendance. Particularly moving was the strong participation of young people and families, who gathered to honor the feast and take part in the parish celebration.
Archimandrite Irineos expressed his emotion and gratitude for the community’s response to the festival hosted at Panagia Kamariotissa, noting that its success is the fruit of the visionary pastoral care and paternal love of Archbishop Makarios of Australia, whose steady presence and unwavering concern continue to support and unite the faithful.
The “Philotimo” Festival 2026 once again proved to be a vibrant witness of faith and tradition, highlighting the power of unity, cooperation, and youth participation within the Church, and leaving a lasting positive impression on all who took part.
