A meeting of the professors of the Patriarchal Toronto Orthodox Theological Academy was held on August 19, 2025, followed by a gathering of 20 priests from the Greater Toronto Area.
The Divine Liturgy was celebrated, presided over by Archbishop Sotirios, with Bishop Athenagoras of Patara and the priests con-celebrating.
Deacon Aleksander Petkovski was ordained to the Holy Priesthood. He is married, a graduate of the Theological School of Thessaloniki, and will serve the Community of Barrie, Ontario.
Participating in the Divine Liturgy were the wife of Fr. Aleksander; Mr. Ioannis Chatzantonakis, Consul General of Greece in Toronto, with his wife; Mrs. Zoe Veroutis, President of the Philoptochos of Canada; Mr. D. Kountouris, President of the Metamorphosis Community; Mrs. S. Rizava, President of the Metamorphosis Philoptochos; Mr. K. Petsis, President of the Barrie Community; and, faithful Christians from both the Barrie Community and Greater Toronto Area.
A dinner followed in the hall of the church.
Both the newly-ordained priest and Archbishop Sotirios spoke in a very spiritual manner, and the Archbishop conveyed to all parishioners the blessings of our Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew.
