Patriarch Theodore II of Alexandria and All Africa, accompanied by the Patriarchal Exarch in Cyprus, Bishop Nicodemus of Nitria, visited the Chief of the National Guard of Cyprus, Mr. Demokritos Zervakis, on the morning of June 20, 2022.
The main topic of discussion was the briefing on the missionary work of the Orthodox Church in Africa, as well as the recent granting of land to the Patriarchate of Alexandria by the President of Egypt, Mr. Al Sisi, in the new administrative capital of Egypt.
Before the Patriarch’s departure, the Chief of the National Guard offered the Patriarch an honorary plaque depicting their common birthplace, Crete.
Afterwards, the Primate of the Alexandrian Church went to the city of Larnaca, where he had a private meeting with Bishop Nektarios of Kition, with whom they decided the once-a-month performance of the Divine Liturgy in English at the Church of St. George in Larnaca for the spiritual needs of the English-speaking congregation coming from South Africa, as well as the consistent assistance of the missionary work in Africa under the coordination and responsibility of the Archimandrite Stylianos Stylianos of Kitio.
Finally, on June 21, 2022, Patriarch Theodore had a formal meeting with Mr. John Papameletiou, Ambassador of Greece to Cyprus.
