On Tuesday, June 10, 2025, Patriarch Porfirije of Serbia met with the Prime Minister of the Republic of Serbia, Professor Dr. Đuro Maćuta, at the Patriarchal Palace in Belgrade.
The Patriarch warmly welcomed the Prime Minister and offered his prayerful wishes that our Lord Jesus Christ may be a source of strength in his work, and that Saint Sava may serve as a beacon and guide in his forthcoming service to the people and to every person of goodwill in our homeland, Serbia.
During the meeting, the two leaders exchanged views on current social issues, emphasizing the importance of safeguarding spiritual and cultural values, as well as the need to strengthen national identity and preserve unity amid the challenges of our time.
Particular emphasis was placed on the issue of education. Professor Maćuta informed the Patriarch about the Government’s initiatives concerning the amendments and additions to the Law on School Textbooks. The aim of these changes is the introduction of a national package of teaching materials for subjects of particular significance, in order to define and standardize curricula that are critical for preserving cultural identity and historical consciousness.
The Prime Minister also briefed the Patriarch on the measures being taken by the Government to normalize the functioning of higher education institutions and to ensure the continued delivery of educational services.
The Patriarch welcomed and blessed these initiatives, stressing that education, peace, mutual understanding, and respect for one another are the foundations of every mature and progressive society, and serve the common good of all citizens.
In attendance at the meeting were: Mr. Miloš Anđić, Director of the Prime Minister’s Office; Mr. Nikola Banjac, Advisor to the Prime Minister; and Protopresbyter Georgije Stojisavljević, Director of the Office of the Patriarch of Serbia.
