According to a statement issued by the Public Relations Service of the Patriarchate of Georgia, Patriarch Shio III of Georgia met with parents of children suffering from Duchenne muscular dystrophy.
The statement said that the Patriarch listened to the difficulties faced by children with Duchenne disease and their families, as conveyed by the parents. During the meeting, it was emphasised that this issue has not been sufficiently studied in Georgia and requires greater attention and coordinated action at the medical, social, and institutional levels.
To this end, it was decided to hold working meetings with specialists as a first step. These meetings will include representatives from the Patriarchate of Georgia, the Patriarchate’s University Clinic, experts in the relevant field, and other interested parties. The importance of effective communication and cooperation with the relevant state authorities was also emphasised.
“The working process aims to examine the needs of children with Duchenne disease and their families more deeply, as well as exploring possible ways to support them in the future,” the statement said.
