The Pope and Patriarch Theodore II of Alexandria and All Africa received on Monday, October 19, 2020, at the Holy Patriarchal Monastery of St. George in Old Cairo, Archbishop Damianos I of Mount Sinai and Raithu.
During their cordial meeting, the Patriarch of Alexandria, in the presence of the Patriarchal Commissioner of Cairo Metropolitan Nicodemus of Memphis, expressed his joy for this visit.
During the meeting, various topics of common interest were discussed and the love and mutual respect between the Patriarchate of Alexandria and the Holy Monastery of St. Catherine of the God-Trodden Mount Sinai were emphasized.
The Patriarch once again expressed his love and respect for the Superintendent of the Holy Monastery of St. Catherine and for the late Elder Saint of Sinai and said that many of his great predecessors, such as Joachim Pany (1487-1567), Sylvester (1567-1590) etc., served as brothers and abbots of the Holy Monastery of the God-Trodden Mount Sinai.
For his part, the Archbishop thanked the Patriarch for the cordial hospitality, wished him a long and brilliant Patriarchy and pledged to preserve and continue the good cooperation with the Ampeteios School, of which he is president.
The Archbishop then inspected the ongoing works inside the old buildings of the Holy Monastery of Saint George, expressing his joy and the just praise to the Abbot Archim. Damaskinos Alazrai.
Concluding his visit to Cairo, he visited the new spiritual center which is under construction in the courtyard of the Holy Temple of St. Spyridon Helwan, where he was briefed by Civil Engineers and the Construction Company on the progress of the work.
This multi-storey building will house Cultural – Pastoral Activities and will significantly help the spiritual development of the people of the area.
