Metropolitan Ioannis of Zambia and Mozambique met with Mr. Koutsoumpas, the General Secretary of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE). There, he conveyed the message of Mozambican President Daniel Chapo, who requested assistance from all European countries. Greece responded immediately.
Metropolitan Ioannis also informed Mr. Koutsoumpas about the current flood situation in Mozambique, which is extremely chaotic and dangerous.
More than two weeks of continuous rain have affected over 200,000 people nationwide, leaving thousands to watch a lifetime’s work destroyed without the ability to intervene.
According to the World Health and Food Organization, homes have suffered damage, and tens of thousands are facing evacuation.
The General Secretary listened attentively and openly expressed his immediate support and assistance for the people of Mozambique, who are relentlessly tested by severe weather conditions.
In response to the Metropolitan of Zambia’s appeal, the KKE made a symbolic monetary donation to support the people of Mozambique. Additionally, its party organizations will participate in gathering humanitarian aid, which will be sent with the full support of the Hellenic Red Cross.
Deeply moved, the Metropolitan warmly thanked him for his act of solidarity with the people of Mozambique.
Olympic weightlifting champion and Hellenic Navy officer Giorgos Tzelilis also attended the meeting.
