With President Petra Bayr and members of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, the Member of Parliament for Phthiotis, Giannis Oikonomou, participated in a meeting at the Phanar with the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew.
During the meeting, they discussed the leading role of the Ecumenical Patriarchate in protecting human rights, safeguarding the environment, and strengthening the rule of law.
Giannis Oikonomou also had the opportunity to speak with the Ecumenical Patriarch about the progress of contacts with the Turkish government regarding the issue of the reopening of the Theological School of Halki, a matter of particular importance for the Orthodox Church and Orthodox Christians worldwide.
The Member of Parliament emphasized that every meeting and exchange with the Patriarch of the Nation, the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, is a source of inspiration and a great honour.
