The head of the Fatih Municipality of Constantinople, Mayor Mehmet Ergün Turan visited the Ecumenical Patriarchate’s headquarters today, Monday, November 25, for the first time after taking up his duties, in response to the visit of Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew after his election. It should be noted that the Patriarchate is within the confines of the Fatih Municipality.
Mr Turan, who was accompanied by Vice Mayor Mehmet Özçelik and his Advisor Nilüfer Türütgen, was received by Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew. The meeting was also attended, on behalf of the Ecumenical Patriarchate, by Archbishop Elpidophoros of America, Archon Grand Chartophilax Panteleimon Vigas, Georgios Papaliaris, Vice-President of the Supporting Association of Roman Community Institutions and Stelios Gülgün, member of the committee of the Ecclesiastical Society of Ypsomatheia.
After the meeting, the Patriarch hosted a luncheon in honour of the Mayor. Then Mr. Turan’s discussed with the aforementioned secular associates of the Ecumenical Patriarch on matters within the Mayor’s competence, concerning the Patriarchate and its institutions in the area.
