Six Albanians from Kosovo, members of the group planning the 2016-2017 terrorist attacks on Serbian Orthodox churches, were sentenced to 25 years and nine months of imprisonment by the Pristina court. This group had relations with the Islamic State (ISIS).
Its leader, Bujar Behrami, admitted during the trial that the terrorist attacks were planned in synergy with Albanian jihadists fighting in Syria.
The first terrorist attempt by the six-member team from Kosovo was in November 2016. At that time, they were planning to attack against Israeli footballers playing in a match with the Albanian national football team in the city of Shkodra. This attack was prevented due to the intervention of the Israeli intelligence service, which informed the Albanian authorities, and draconian security measures were taken.
On January 2017, the same group planned attacks on Orthodox churches in Kosovo during the Christmas Mass. The planning information was leaked, and these terrorist attacks were foiled.
Bujar Behrami revealed that they were planning terrorist attacks on the temples with poison gas, which they tried to purchase online.
